Video Zune

Video Zune

Microsoft has done it again, they have released another video Zune this one with 120 GB of storage. This latest installment looks to improve on an already popular product and add a few new features.

Features

Pros

Music pass for the video Zune is great for $14.99 a month you can have unlimited access to music. Granted you are only renting the tracks or albums, however, there is such a large number available you will more than get your money’s worth. Plus you avoid paying for an entire album only to find you can’t stand the artist. Music pass is a perfect way to try it before you buy it.

The FM radio with presets and the ability to mark songs for future download is awesome. How many times have you heard a song on the radio but never heard the artist or song name? Now with a click of a button it does not matter, you can purchase it on the spot or save the information for later.

Many people love the new channels function of the video Zune. Once a week the player makes a list of songs it based on your history and develops channels similar to radio stations. You may have pop, R&B or Rock channels based on the genre of music that you play and like. Then you can choose which channels if any that you want to subscribe to.

The 3.2-inch screen is larger than most mp3 players on the market are. The screen is large and has great resolution in any light. You will want to get a screen protector to prevent scratching however.

As with other video Zune products, i.e the 30 or 80 GB you can wirelessly share music from one Zune to another. This functions much like blue tooth does on a cell phone, simply turn on the wireless sharing and you will see all Zune’s in the vicinity. You can then share a song or video with your friends. They will have three days and up to three plays to try the song out before they buy it.

Cons

Casing of the video Zune 120 GB is prone to scratching and fingerprints. A case is necessary have if you want to keep it looking nice. Some cases will interfere with the buttons and scrolling options so choose carefully.

Battery life could be a bit better as could the ear buds that ship with the device. This is a common problem with all mp3 players and perhaps soon battery technology will catch up to the advanced features of these players.

Overall

By all accounts, the video Zune is a great player for the money. It is not one that you can take to the gym and use while exercising but for everyday use and sharing the video Zune takes mp3 players to the next level.
